About the show: Amanda D'Archangelis (Music) and Sami Horneff (Lyrics) met in the world-renowned BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. After being paired for the final project of their first year course, D'Archangelis and Horneff quickly realized they had found a life-long partnership.

That class assignment later developed into their first full-length musical together (and their Off-Broadway debut as a team). Single Rider ran at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village for five weeks in the summer of 2018 and was subsequently presented at the University of Alabama.

Amanda and Sami's other recent work includes The Radium Girls: A Jaw-Dropping New Musical (in collaboration with Lisa Mongillo), which premiered as a virtual production through Western Connecticut State University in 2020 and won five national awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in 2021; The Break, which had its premiere reading in 2018 through the Omaha Creative Institute and has since been showcased at Lied Center for Performing Arts; and Coming Attraction, a new musical about the life of Hollywood icon Greta Garbo, which premiered at the Wilbury Theatre Group in Providence, RI, and will soon have a staged reading at the York Theatre Company.

Their work has also been performed at famed concert venues across New York City, including Green Room 42, The Duplex, Prohibition NYC, Lincoln Center, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, The Metropolitan Room, and Feinstein's/54 Below. Recently, D'Archangelis and Horneff wrote two songs for the feature film A Ring for Christmas, which played on the UPtv network throughout the 2020 holiday season. In 2019, they were named York Theatre Company’s New/Emerging/Outstanding (NEO) Writers.

Review of WCSU’s The radium Girls in patch

November 28th 2020 - “…The subtitle should have given me the idea that this female-driven production would be completely different from the play about the young women who painted watches with a radium paint to the detriment of the health of their jaws as well as the rest of their bodies. Inserting music to this story was a bold choice and then cheekily adding ‘jaw-dropping’ to the musical's title perfectly matches the dark comedy that is this new work. There is plenty of silliness that made me smile, with many a play on words and especially variations of Olive's name.

Although the action is set in Newark, NJ, parts of this work reminded me of the musical Urinetown in its tone. A Waterbury, CT clock factory is featured in Olive's research and she even makes a call to Waterbury Hospital. I enjoyed the original and often cheeky songs in the two acts. Olive's "wanna" song called "Start A Fire" was a good one and the first act closer "Jaw Dropping Girls" set in a speakeasy was a very good production number. "Glow" and its reprise was both ironic and fun, and the finale "Through the Dark" was well- placed. I loved the epilogue where we learned of the future paths of the characters who survived.

The theatre arts students were required to rehearse and film the performance 100% remotely, so the final product is the result of a ton of hard work…”

“LIGHT AND SHADOW”: The journey of a new musical

MAY 29th 2020 - The Wilbury Theatre Group presented “Light and Shadow”: The Journey Of A New Musical. Collaborators Sami Horneff, Amanda D’Archangelis and Gray Horan discuss the development of their new musical, COMING ATTRACTION.

In January 2019 Wilbury Theatre hosted the very first reading of an ambitious new musical, COMING ATTRACTION. A semi-finalist for the Eugene O'Neill National Musical Theatre festival, the new musical imagines the life-changing encounter of two young women who were forging their careers at MGM Studios in 1920's Hollywood - Greta Garbo and the studio’s first and only portrait photographer, Ruth Harriet Louise. Performed by a treasure trove of actors, including Katrina Pavao and Olivia Miller, and directed by Meredith Healey with Jennifer Holden as accompanist, the reading was an exciting evening for the standing-room-only crowd. For the show's collaborators, it was an opportunity to watch the actors and audience respond to the play. But what happens after that important first step? Rewriting, reworking and re-envisioning...

This Live Stream event brings together the show's collaborators (Amanda D'Archangelis/Composer, Sami Horneff/Lyricist and Gray Horan/Bookwriter) for a discussion with Wilbury's Artistic Director, Josh Short about the process of developing their new musical. They'll bring you along on the journey of one of the musical’s most memorable songs, Light and Shadow, to illustrate how their musical is evolving, changing, responding and finding it's best path forward.
